Ski touring from sea to summit far above the arctic circle...
Nestled amidst snow-capped mountains and breathtaking fjords, Northern Norway is a paradise for ski touring enthusiasts seeking unforgettable adventures. Ski touring in Northern Norway means embarking on thrilling expeditions through vast expanses of untouched terrain, where the serenity and beauty of nature take center stage. From the Lyngen Alps to the Lofoten Islands, this remote corner of the world promises an unforgettable ski touring experience.
Both trips are exciting week-long programs including 7 days of ski touring. We will stay at a B & B in quint fishing villages from where we will do ski touring day trips in the local backcountry. We will drive you in a Van to and from the various touring locations, all venues range from a 20 to 50-minute drive. At the end of the day, we will relax and gather for a group dinner with our hosts. Advanced downhill skills preferred, previous powder ski touring experience required. Ability to link turns in variable snow conditions is also required. You will need to sign our digital liability waiver before making payment here.

Lofoten is an archipelago situated in the county of Nordland, Norway. It is located above the Arctic Circle and is known for its stunning natural beauty, including rugged mountains, picturesque fjords, and pristine beaches. Lofoten is located approximately 68 degrees north latitude and 13 degrees east longitude. The archipelago consists of several islands, with the main ones being Austvågøy, Gimsøya, Vestvågøy, Flakstadøya, and Moskenesøya. The region is characterized by its dramatic landscapes, with steep granite peaks rising directly from the sea, creating a breathtaking backdrop for visitors.
For the Lofoten trip, you will first book your flight to Oslo (OSL) then fly from Oslo to Harstad (EVE). Approx. 1,5 hours flight. This will be our meeting point.
The Lyngen Alps, on the other hand, are located in the Lyngen municipality of Troms County, Norway. They are situated on a peninsula that extends into the Arctic Ocean, approximately 69 degrees north latitude and 20 degrees east longitude. The Lyngen Alps are part of the Scandinavian Mountains and are known for their majestic peaks, deep valleys, and glaciers. The highest peak in the range is Jiehkkevárri, standing at an elevation of 1,834 meters (6,017 feet). The area is a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts, offering opportunities for hiking, skiing, snowboarding, and mountaineering. The combination of the Lyngen Alps’ stunning scenery and the surrounding fjords makes it a unique and picturesque location.
For the Lygnen Alps trip, you will first book your flight to Oslo (OSL) then fly from Oslo to Tromso airport (TOS). This will be our meeting point.
Norway’s weather is generally mild and wet as it is a maritime climate despite its northern latitude. In the mountains, however, mid-winter daytime temperatures will hover between -7C & -12C.
Visibility may be poor or whiteout conditions when snowing heavily or clear on bluebird days. Ensure you are dressed for all variations as temperatures, wind, precipitation can change within the day.

Where can I rent Ski touring and safety equipment?
There are a few outdoor stores in Harstad or Tromso that supply good service and quality outdoor equipment however ski touring rentals here are limited. We can provide some avalanche equipment if needed, please ensure you rent gear well in advance. We recommend using your own.
Skis, Telemark or Split Boards?
Which should you use? If you are a downhill skier then you should use Alpine Touring gear. Only if you are already an advanced Telemark skier or Snowboarder should you bring Telemark or Split Board gear. All types of gear can be rented in Nelson prior to your day trip. There are three types of backcountry systems you can use:
Alpine Touring skis are essentially downhill skis with a special touring binding which allows the heel to lift whilst going uphill or across the flats and then ‘locks down’ to become a regular downhill safety binding. We recommend this system to anyone with a background of downhill skiing who is not already an advanced telemark skier.
Telemark skis. These should only be used for this program if you are at least an intermediate telemark skier with some backcountry experience. This system is more difficult and less forgiving than others.
Snowboarding with a Split Board is the most effective way to snowboard in the backcountry. On this touring weeks, guests must be using a split board system as snowshoes are limiting for group travel.
